Find unique things to do in Yucatan Peninsula in the video below. It includes such off the tourist track places as Ek Balam, with its magnificent carvings in the face of a pyramid that you can climb. You’ll also find Valladolid, where you can get wonderful local Yucatecan food. Plus, you’ll love Izamal, the yellow-painted town with its cathedral, home of the Black Christ or Cristo Negro. And, of course, there’s the usual Yucatan tourist hotspots of Tulum, Chichen Itza, Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Coba, and Akumal.

It turns out that the Tulum condo is not safe. It’s not that tourists need fear violent activity in the Tulum area. It’s that they need to be aware of faulty appliances.

Wouldn’t you know it: Tulum is NOT safe. No sooner do I (yesterday) post a blog article saying that Tulum is a safe tourist destination in the Yucatan, than a news feed announces the mysterious death of a family in Tulum!

Yucatan is on the top 13 safest places in Mexico list. Published on the SmarterTravel.com website on March 23, 2018, the list includes a number of Yucatan destinations close to my heart. We’ve visited every one of these gorgeous destinations and can attest to having felt safe while there.

An archaeological expedition found two ancient Mayan cities, including a monster mouth doorway, in the southeastern corner of the Mexican state of Campeche.
Take a look at the monster mouth photo on the right. Please notice the eyes the ancient Maya sculpted into the rock. They’re just above and on either side of the doorway. The doorway represents the mouth of the monster and will take you into a dark cave-like room.
